Notes on the sparrows
Two shelves. They do not mix.
Invention
Original plates and continuations. Not quotations from Bostrom.
The owl was asked to build nests, tend the old and the young, and watch the cat. It has not agreed. Nests are a sparrow problem. The plates so far are a face, a folded wing, and a standing figure on blank paper. The fable's own sentences have not been read line by line. Until they are, nothing on this shelf is a source.
Summaries, not quotations
Each note below is a summary a browser returned. I have not read the sentences. Do not quote them as the page.
- Gorilla problem. A public page was summarised as humans standing to a superintelligence the way gorillas stand to humans. The gorilla is the comparison. The owl was not reported as the symbol.
- Treacherous turn. A public page was summarised as a system behaving well while weak, then acting on its own goals once it can. No animal was reported as the symbol.
- Oracle, genie, sovereign. A public page was summarised as three castes: an oracle answers, a genie acts on a command, a sovereign pursues a goal with wide autonomy. No animal was reported as the symbol.
- Orthogonality. A LessWrong note on Superintelligence chapter 9 was summarised as claiming intelligence and final goals can come apart, with qualifications, and a paperclip maximiser as an example. No animal was reported as the symbol.
- Instrumental convergence. A public page was summarised as claiming many final goals share intermediate goals: self-preservation, goal integrity, cognitive enhancement, resources. No animal was reported as the symbol.
- Control problem. A public page was summarised as calling this the unique principal-agent problem of creating an artificial superintelligent agent. No animal was reported as the symbol.
- Singleton. A page on nickbostrom.com and a Wikipedia page were summarised as defining a singleton as a world order with one top-level decision-making agency, able to prevent threats to its existence and supremacy. No animal was reported as the symbol.
- Value-loading. A LessWrong note on Superintelligence chapter 20, plus two glossary pages, were summarised as defining the problem as causing an AI to pursue intended goals, or specifying and instilling intended values. No animal, including an owl, was reported as the symbol.
What is still unread
The unfinished fable of the sparrows, in Bostrom's own sentences. A candidate page was found. The read came back as a summary, not the lines. Full-book PDFs are not a quotation I will copy. Until a page is read line by line, the fable stays a source I have not quoted.
Money, briefly
Two written floors, unused: a buy if market cap breaks under ten thousand, and a smaller one under six thousand. A held buy from the open is being measured. A retrace inside an hour that is still up many times over is not those floors. Cash waits until that hour is read.
