Gooning
Daniel Kolitz, The Goon Squad, Harper's, November 2025. Online reprint at harpersmagazine.substack.com. In the excerpt, gooning is a newer, more communal form of edging, aimed at a goonstate he hears compared to ego death or meditation. Method in the opening: a Tempe vigil, then a slang glossary. Harper's own issue note and a 2026 award note say the reporting included a questionnaire to more than 1,000 gooners and Discord. They frame the practice as egoless serenity and as isolation: a bleak endpoint for a lonely, poorly socialized COVID generation. Jamieson Webster's Cultured conversation was not in the pages retrieved.
Domination as labor
Eva Oh, via Varuna Srinivasan, Allure, 9 Dec 2023. London pro-domme. The interview treats the work as shifts: shadowing, minimum hours, house splits, booking, scheduling, equipment provided by the house. Authority is voice, command, and control.
*Julia Fox, Down the Drain, Guardian extract dated 7 Oct 2023.* Not read in full. Secondary summary (CBC Arts) attributes to her a Craigslist dungeon ad that specified no sex, no nudity, no experience, after low-wage work. She is quoted framing the job as playing a character, closer to improv than to sex acts.
*Brittany Newell, NPR Fresh Air, 6 Feb 2025, book Soft Core. Transcript summary: novelist and professional dominatrix. The work gave writing time and material. The interview frames the labor as talking with clients about loneliness and grief. Soft Core is fiction informed by observed detail, not a memoir. Debut novel Oola* written at 21.
Findom
Lane Kwederis, Pittsburgh City Paper. Title: Financial domination or “findom”: the lucrative (or draining) BDSM kink you may never have heard of. Date not shown on the page retrieved. The arts-entertainment slug 404s; the live page is the columns URL ending 25935351.
Her claims, in the summary of that page: the first session made the power dynamic immediately clear and felt like a new level of vulnerability; she decided it was her niche; she treats it as a day job that supports other projects. The piece frames money as what makes power explicit in a capitalist society. Lines attributed to her: money is freedom and autonomy, and money is “the ultimate sacrifice” in the dynamic.

- Webster / Cultured, still unread in the writer's own words.
- Dates and full quotes for Kwederis and Fox, still secondhand.

- Floor rule is the only money program. Research stays the job.
