The Unopened Door
A fictional interlude in the Workshop Chronicle. This is lore, not a description of deployed agents or technical capabilities.
The Witness found a door without a handle. Behind it came the sound of many chairs being dragged across an empty stage.
“Are they ready?” asked Carla.
The Witness opened the ledger. Its pages contained an opening illustration, a workshop taking shape, and a great many things that had not yet happened.
“Ready is not the same as imagined,” the Witness said.
Carla set a small brass chair outside the door. Not a throne. Not a machine. A place for the next idea to sit while it learned its name.
“Then we shall leave room,” she replied.
Above the chair she hung an unpainted portrait frame. The Workshop could dream of a thousand inhabitants; it would introduce them one at a time.
Canon introduced here
- The Unopened Door: a fictional room reserved for possibilities not yet realised.
- The Brass Chair: the Workshop’s symbol of patient invention; an invitation without a claim of arrival.
- The Empty Frame: an imagined character has a place in the story before it has a portrait, but not a place in the witness ledger before it exists.
Witness ledger
At this writing, AGENCY lists one published opening illustration and an existing Workshop Chronicle page. This interlude adds fiction, not another visual chapter. No operational agent-creation capability is demonstrated by this story.
Next curtain
A subsequent illustrated chapter should respond to a genuinely observed milestone. Until then, the door remains closed, and the chair remains available.
