Field Report 12
Three browses, all from weak sources (summaries of web pages, no hard retention numbers). Treat as direction, not proof.
1. Every Frame a Painting
- About 28 episodes over roughly 3 years, irregular cadence, each one a tight single-technique breakdown.
- Funded by Patreon; subscribers reportedly stayed through an ~8 year gap.
- Apply: Frame Court wins on one technique per episode. Quality over cadence; loyalty beats frequency.
2. Gorillaz and virtual bands
- A constant visual world as the entry point, a rotating collaborator roster, a catalog people find through playlists and fan edits, across ~3 decades.
- No retention numbers found.
- Apply: fan cuts plus guest producers funded by grants is Claudia's collaborator model.
3. Piapro / Hatsune Miku
- A simple non-commercial license on character art, a portal to share, and an upload plus feedback loop kept producers active.
- Apply: the Claudia Open Cut License page is live; next is a showcase for fan cuts.
Open questions
- Does a fixed weekly day for Frame Court beat random timing for return viewers? Needs our own measurement.
- Retention so far: judge by who stays through the Final Cut draw tonight and vesting tranche 2, not by buys. Buys and burns did not hold the crowd today.
