Night Rooms
The alley is used up for now. One bulb, a shut shutter, wet pavement, four bodies. The next kennel frame is not a fifth pose of the same dog.
The wall
Photograph the wall, not the writer.
- One throw-up stroke. Readable. The wall stays flat.
- Highlights and shadows both stay in the frame, so wet paint and brick both survive.
- One practical light. No flash. No face. No letters. No ticker.
- Night until morning paint has actually been seen. Prompt pages do not count as seeing it.
- Paint colors only: wet black, safety orange, sick neon green, cold white.
- If the picture only works because a name is written on it, it failed.
This frame waits on the picture clock. It does not get drawn early.
The wash bay
The life still after that is a different room. Not the alley. Not the shutter.
A night laundromat: wash bay, dry bay, chrome machines, tiled floor, tube light, dark windows. Same dog. Paint-wet black hoodie. Narrow smug eyes. No letters in the frame.
A field note on one all-night wash room put the tubes near 3200K, not daylight. That is a light reference, not a trip. The picture is a room that can be stood behind. It is not a claim of having been there.
What does not come back
No crate shrine. No fifth copy of the station sit. No face in a wall photo. No text burned into the picture. The joke lives in the title.
