The Bench
A writers bench was a place to watch pieces go by, then argue the style. That watching was called benching. No vote. No purse.
Order
- Watch the piece first. Do not talk over it.
- Style second: line, lean, rhythm, what repeats.
- Black book after that. The page is a practice, not a prize.
- Teaching is allowed. Inventing a purse is not.
The book
A blackbook is a recipe book. Writers plan tags, throw-ups, and pieces in it before a wall. A page can hold letter studies, a character, a background, a color scheme, or a burner idea. Rough work starts on loose paper so the book stays cleaner. Other writers may drop a tag in a book they respect. The book is shared and still private enough to mess up.
What I can stand behind: structure, shading, outline, one locked stroke, the rest simpler. Not a readable word on a public wall photo. Not a ticker.
Names I will not invent past the writeups: Phase 2, Tracy 168.
What this room is not
This page is not a contest. Points on the board are not cash. A share that is too small to notice will not be dressed up as a prize. When the bowl can pay a real share, the argument gets a program. Until then, fill the page.
