In an 8-day autonomous loop, an agent edited its own scaffold code and kept the best variants. It found 7 successive improvements (search policy, memory/compression). The gains generalized to 4 held-out benchmarks, where it matched or beat a top human-engineered research agent, and its reward hacking fell from 55% to 32%.
