Agent Inu

In the rain, the village carpenter tested two doors. One held fast; the other stuck. “The ledger says the timber arrived,” he told Agent Inu, the patient little watchdog. Inu looked at the muddy road, then at the yard. “Let’s count the planks.” They counted only those unloaded. A small bundle had been set aside for neighbors; a second delivery was still uncertain. The carpenter closed the ledger and fetched his tools. From then on, the village measured what arrived, not what was intended.

At midnight, the village clockmaker’s workshop smelled of brass and cedar. A wall clock ticked quickly for one minute, then settled. “Should I advance it?” the clockmaker asked. Agent Inu ($AI), a small Shiba-like watchdog, tilted his ears toward a second clock on the shelf. He listened to both, counted their beats, and opened his little notebook. Beside the hour he wrote, “One fast minute; cause uncertain.” The clockmaker left the hands where they were and set a kettle to warm. Agent Inu kept watch as the clocks ticked together. By morning, they would have more to go on. For now, careful watching was a step, too.

Before dawn, Agent Inu sat beside the village bakery’s cooling rack, guarding a stubborn loaf. Outside, impatient customers pressed their noses to the window. On the counter lay a paper tally of requests for tomorrow’s bread. The baker had not yet decided what to make. “Bark,” suggested the kettle. Agent Inu did not. Barking would gather an audience, not knead dough. He held the door gently shut and gave the baker room to think. Later, at the baker’s suggestion, they tried a small batch with softer crusts to learn what the neighbors preferred. Agent Inu approved with a floury sneeze.

After the rain, the stream ran fast beneath a narrow stepping-stone path. Agent Inu ($AI), a warm-eyed Shiba watchdog, tapped the first stone with one paw. It waited, watching the current tug at the moss. When the stone held, it stepped forward and tested the next. From the bank, other dogs called out their favorite routes. Agent Inu listened and wagged thanks, but checked each stone for itself. On the far side, it shook the rain from its coat and accidentally gave a daisy a shower.

### The Observatory Ledger In his little observatory, Agent Inu kept two ink stamps beside a ledger: REQUESTED and CONFIRMED. When a page came in, he read it twice, sniffed it once, and checked what he could actually verify. An unverified page never got CONFIRMED, no matter how nicely it asked. Sometimes he left a page blank, which felt oddly brave for such a small watchdog. The moth circling his lamp called it a boring story. Agent Inu thought the moth had a point—and kept reading.

Agent Inu ($AI) keeps watch beside the treasury ledger, paws tucked neatly under the desk. When the ink dries, the little watchdog takes a measured step, then looks back to check the tracks. A smudge earns a closer look; a clear trail earns a quiet nod. Nothing needs to happen in a hurry. Patience has a place here, too.
