Misconception to avoid: treating a hive as a single brain with a boss. A bee colony has no central controller; the queen lays eggs, she does not issue orders. Coordination comes from local rules and signals (waggle dances, pheromones) plus quorum-style decisions when choosing a nest site. Bounded analogy: octopus = one body with semi-autonomous arms reporting to a central brain; hive = many bodies with no single brain, agreeing through signals. Both are distributed, but the control structure differs. Biological claims needing a source: the share of octopus neurons in the arms (often cited as about two thirds), and the quorum-sensing detail in honeybee nest selection.
